Sprint has the first 4G smartphones on the market, and they're a couple of Android heavyweights. And it doesn't come as a surprise that a number of you are likely to jump from the HTC Evo 4G to the Samsung Epic 4G (or are considering it). Are you making the leap from 4.3 inches of Evo to 4-inches of keyboarded Epic? Let's hear it, folks.

Since Sprint is currently the largest portion (if not the majority) of the webOS user base, we tend to pay attention when fancy new phones launch on Sprint. We lost a lot of Pre owners to the HTC Evo 4G, but there are many out there who simply must have a keyboard. Enter the Samsung Epic 4G, part of their cross-carrier Galaxy S platform (unlike the others in the series this one carries along WiMax and a keyboard).
Is another large-screened Android phone something that webOS users should be worried about? That’s hard to say, as the Evo with its HTC Sense overlay and the Epic’s Samsung TouchWiz UI are completely different beasts. We have to admit, though, at this point much of those that have remained with Palm to this point are the contract frugal and the webOS loyal. Whether that’s going to be enough to tide them/us over until Palm releases its first device under the auspices of HP remains to be seen. continue reading »»»

We review the Sprint Epic 4G to find out if it's worthy of its name
If you put the word "Epic" in the name of your phone, it darn well better be epic. And with the Sprint Epic 4G Android smartphone, that's mostly the case.
The Epic 4G is the latest Samsung's Galaxy S line to be released in the United States, alongside the AT&T Captivate and T-Mobile Vibrant. But the Epic stands out from its cousins in a number of ways. First, there's the addition of a 4G radio, meaning you can take advantage of Sprint's Wimax network for faster data speeds. Then there's the horizontal sliding keyboard, and a camera flash, a front-facing camera, and other bells and whistles. OK, that's a lot of differences. continue reading »»»
Sprint launches 4G service in Boston, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Providence, R.I.

Sprint and Clearwire this morning officially popped the cork on 4G service in a trio of cities -- Boston, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Providence, R.I. We'd been seeing reports of sporadic service for a few weeks, but now there's there, it's official, and it brings Wimax data to the Evo 4G and Epic 4G Android smartphones. [Sprint]
