Meizu CEO Jack Wong: Oh hey, the new iPod touch 'looks a bit like the M9II'

Should there be an international award for Cheekiest Man of the Year, it'd have to go to Meizu's shameless Jack Wong. Shortly after Apple's keynote last week, the CEO of KIRFdom seized the opportunity to cry foul on the new iPod touch, claiming it "looks a bit like" his forthcoming M9II Android phone, as pictured above. Wait, M9II? Turns out even though the M9 has yet to materialize in early October, Mr. Wong already has an enhanced model to be brought forth by his faithful unicorns.

Huawei Ideos hands-on

Chinese telecom giant Huawei -- which has been playing the Android game with major carriers around the world for some time now -- has selected IFA to debut the Ideos, a new entry-level model running Froyo in a variety of colors. Huawei's press release calls the Ideos "the world's first affordable smartphone" -- which seems like a bit of an overstatement (okay, a huge overstatement) to us -- but really underscores the fact that this thing is going to be launching for somewhere between $100 and $200 unsubsidized in Europe, Asia, and both North and Latin America. It's got 3G, WiFi, mobile hotspot capability for up to eight devices, and was apparently developed in direct partnership with Google, a sign that Mountain View is serious about taking Android 2.2 across the entire price spectrum.

Nexus One gets a new software leak, Froyo version FRG33

The Nexus One will never die.  Today we see an new software leak, in the form of a complete packaged ROM (courtesy of Football @ xda) with the FRG33 tag on board.  I haven't had a chance to load it up just yet, but the few that have say it seems a bit faster, has the new radio that was in the Korean Nexus One launch, but doesn't have the new Google apps on board.

Toshiba announces Folio 100 tablet -- 10.1 inches of Android 2.2

Toshiba officially announced its Folio 100 tablet today -- a 10.1-inch device running Android 2.2 (Froyo).

It's a very intriguing device and the specs sounds great:

  • 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen
  • 1024 x 600
  • Android 2.2 (Froyo)
  • NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor
  • 16 GB internal storage (32 GB available SD expansion)
  • Adobe Flash 10.1
  • 1.3 MP front-facing camera
  • Mini-HDMI 
  • USB 2.0
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • WLAN (802.11)
  • Mobile broadband (available Q1 2011)

For those who have been unhappy that the Galaxy Tab appears to be 3G-only, the Folio 100 will be Wi-Fi first, with 3G coming in 2011.
