Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook to offer WiMAX option?

Dell’s popular Mini 10 netbook may be adding WiMAX to its long list of connectivity options as the latest iteration, model 1012, was spotted at the FCC rocking the Intel WiMAX/WiFi link 6250 chipset. The Mini 10 is highly customizable with the base computer including a 10.1 inch widescreen display with an HD resolution option, an Intel Atom processor, 1GB DDR2 SDRAM, Integrated Intel graphics, Wi-Fi, Qualcomm GOBI chipset with AT&T 3G or Verizon Wireless 3G, optional GPS, optional TV tuner and Windows XP or Windows 7 Starter edition. The FCC documentation does not hint at any exclusive WiMAX carrier but it would be nice to see the netbook offered by Clear, Sprint or one of the other WiMAX resellers with a generous subsidy.

  • Another netbook gets the Mac OS X treatment. Both the MSI Wind and the Asus Eee PC have seen a successful OS X install. Now it’s the Dell Inspiron Mini’s turn and its transformation into a Mini-Mac appears to be relatively easy. To begin,  you will need to get a hold of a slipstreamed version of OS 10.5 that has been customized for the MSI Wind. Shh, you didn’t hear it from us, but you can find it on Pirate Bay. Burn the 3.5GB .iso to DVD, boot, and install. At this point you will have an Inspiron Mini-Mac that boots into OS X without audio or Wi-Fi. Install two additional files to enable the Broadcom wireless adapter and the audio chipset, and voila, you now have a fully functional Dell Inspiron Mini 9 running OS X.  Awesome! Kudos to Dan over at UNEASYsilence who pioneered this procedure. You rock, brotherman.

  • It looks as if Dell’s Android handset is getting ready for prime time with AT&T as a new filing found on the FCC’s website has revealed the Mini 3iX. With both 850/1900 MHz bands of UMTS as well as Wi-Fi on board, the 3iX is likely to be identical to the Mini 3i which was unveiled in mid-August by China Mobile, the only difference being the aforementioned. If this is indeed the case then we’re looking at a 3.5″ 360×640 touchscreen display, 3 megapixel camera, A-GPS and support for Microsoft Exchange. The question is, will anybody even care?
