Initial (& final) impressions of the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini

Richard has been spending time with a Sony Ericsson X10 Mini and sent in the following which offer a short, but comprehensive review of what the phone is really like.

It’s small, very small (but then I knew that because I’d tested one in an O2 shop). And light. Which is great for me as I like to have as little in my pocket as possible. Admission: having said that, I was seriously considering a Dell Streak at the same time. Ahem.

It’s also very attractive. I knew that, too, but further exposure has heightened my appreciation of the job Sony have done on it. I also love the look of the larger X10 – they’ve put together a great-looking series of phones.

This is my first Android device so I’m a novice and not so sure what I expected to get from it. But I like the way Sony have used the 4 corners of the screen for app shortcuts continue reading »»»

Computer controlled Bayan from 1988 makes us want to go back to the past

Nokia E5 review

Steve Litchfield has posted his detailed review of the Nokia E5. Once again we have a competent effort from Nokia, but sadly one that looks like a Palm Centro…

I used the term ‘design language’ intentionally above. It seems that every couple of years a new ‘look’ emerges from Nokia’s design departments. We’ve had ‘industrial and square’, we’ve had ‘plastic with silly keys’, and everything in between. And now it’s time for ‘human curvature’, to nick Sony Ericsson’s term – rounded corners, rounded back and a generally ‘comfy’ feel. This in turn does have some implications for specification, in that the Eseries stalwart BP-4L battery would have been too tight a fit, so instead we’ve got a 1200mAh BL-4D battery – although an obvious compromise, in practice it makes little difference, since typical E5 users will still see an easy two or three days use per charge.

No, the big compromises made for the E5 are in the screen and the camera. continue reading »»»
